Making a Learning Tub

When kids learn at home, sometimes you find out that you can't find the supplies you know you have.

My personal example would be pencils.

I have no idea where they go.
I think the dog at them.

My family will be making a learning tub with all the supplies they may need during our distance learning experience.   Since we wont start until Tuesday or Wednesday, we have time to find everything.

For those of you at home, gather some stuff and make one for preschool age children with me.  All of the supplies you can find at the Dollar Tree, my favorite store.  If you go out this weekend, be safe and take your hand sanitizer.

1. Container
How do we keep all the supplies from running away?  Put them in their own space.  You could use a basket or tub.  Anything that holds stuff is good.  I prefer the ones with lids since we are clumbsy in this house.

2. Something to write with and something to write on
Make sure you have paper (preferably unlined) and pencils or crayons or markers.  You could also use a wipe off board and markers.  This will give the kids the option to copy the teacher and practice writing their name.

3. Alphabet cards, number cards, shape cards
This not so you can flash cards at your child.  That would be boring and is not an effective way to teach young children.  If will give the kids a chance to participate with the teacher when online activities are available.

The Dollar Tree has premade cards or grab a bunch of note cards and make your own.

4. Dice
I have gotten nice big hard foam dice at Dollar Tree before, but today they only had little game dice.
Dice make the greatest math game ever.  Just roll.  How many?  They never get tired of it at school, so let's try playing together on Zoom.
You can play games like match the number to the dice.  If your child can tell you how many without counting, it is called subitizing, and they are ready for two dice at a time.

5.  Letter beads and pipe cleaners
Be careful if you have little ones at home.  I do not want them to end up in their mouth, ears, or nose.
Putting the beads on the pipe cleaners is a great fine motor skill while practicing letter recognition.

6. Other stuff you may want to pick up
I visit the Dollar Tree frequently for things I use in the classroom.  You may want to pick up some and I'll show you how to make a game out of it.
Clothes pins, play dough, popsicle sticks, stickers

  1. Tracking possibilities for shipments are rated at 3.31. It indicates a satisfactory performance - most of the shipments arrive timely and within the scheduled time brackets; late arrivals are still possible, although uncommon. http://www.confiduss.com/en/jurisdictions/cyprus/infrastructure/
